Te Paki Sand Dunes, Northland, New Zealand

Just meters from the road, Aotearoa’s lush north abruptly vanishes into a vast sea of sand. We climbed to the crest of the tallest shimmering dune we could see, and far off in the distance could just make out what this beach was lacking... the ocean.

GEOLOGICAL PROFILE: An active coastal transgressive dunefield composed of highly mobile, wind-blown Holocene quartz sands migrating inland.
